Discovery Before Design
The most expensive sentence in software is "while you're at it…" — uttered three months into a build. Good discovery moves those sentences to week one, when they're cheap.
Talk to users, not just buyers
The person signing the contract rarely uses the software daily. We interview operators, support staff and end users — the people whose workarounds reveal what the system must actually do.
Prototype the riskiest assumption
Every project has one belief that could sink it: users will pay, the integration is possible, the workflow fits. We test that belief first with the cheapest possible prototype, before designing anything else.
End with a scope you can sign
Discovery concludes with user stories, a clickable prototype and a fixed-scope proposal. No vague "phase ones" — you know what you'll get, when, and what it costs.
Two weeks now, two months later
Across our projects, thorough discovery cuts mid-build change requests by more than half. It's the highest-ROI fortnight in software.
